I’m a Nora Roberts fan and have been for many years and many books. She is a best-selling and hugely popular romance writer. Romance novels have fairly interchangeable heroes and heroines, the handsome alpha male and the pretty, smart, independent, plucky female. I don’t care about that as long as the story is well written and has some spice. Not just sex, but something in the storyline that takes me into a different kind of world and makes me keep wanting to turn the page. For me, it’s all about the escape. The In Death series that Ms. Roberts writes as JD Robb I would classify as futuristic romantic suspense. The near-future setting is just oddball enough to give the romantic suspense an entertaining spin. Eve is the perfect smart-ass cop heroine and Roarke is the way-too-good-to-be-true rich blue-eyed hero, complete with an Irish brogue. It’s a great getaway and that’s all I want from a romance novel.
